Order: Proboscidea

Elephants and allies first appeared in the Upper Eocene period and are currently distributed in  Eurasia, Africa, North and South America. The two living genera  Indian and African elephant have a high and truncate skull with massive tusks, a  short mandible, a long proboscis, graviportal limbs and girdles. They reach a length of over 640 cm (252 in.).
