Bats first appeared in the Middle Eocene
period and are now widly distributed to in tropical and temperate regions. Their
he wings consist of a fold of skin supported by elongated bones of the
second through fifth digits. Their hind limbs are variously specialized but
generally weak. Their Incisors are generally reduced, canines prominent, and
cheek teeth rather primitive. The length of head and body ranges from about 3 to
40 cm with a wing span to about 120 cm.
