Order: Musophagiformes

Turacos are  long-tailed African plant-eating birds related to cuckoos that feed mostly on fruits. They have three toes on each foot point forward, while the fourth usually sticks out to the side but can be rotated forward or backward. The toes are short and abruptly curved. Some turacos (Tauraco and Musophaga) are unusual in that their green pigments are produced by a different substance than in most birds, while red colors are produced by a pigment unique in the entire animal kingdom..
