Turacos are
long-tailed African plant-eating birds related to cuckoos that feed mostly on
fruits. They have three toes on each foot point forward, while the fourth
usually sticks out to the side but can be rotated forward or backward. The toes
are short and abruptly curved. Some turacos (Tauraco and Musophaga)
are unusual in that their green pigments are produced by a different substance
than in most birds, while red colors are produced by a pigment unique in the
entire animal kingdom..
