General and Commander of the Southwest Pacific area from 1942 to 1945. As supreme commander of the Allied powers in the Pacific, he presided over the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945.
Thank you so much for sending me the billfold. It is an artistic souvenir
which will constantly remind me of your thoughtful generosity. the fact
that I have not much to put in it will not subtract in the slightest degree from
my thanks and appreciation.
Developments here are still favorable, but if they continue to cut down my air
force, I will soon be in the same condition I was when you joined me in
Australia.
