Ray Douglas Bradbury ( Waukegan , 22 August 1920 - Los Angeles , June 5 2012 ) was a writer U.S. , innovator of the genre fiction , in his career he was also screenwriter film .

Born in Waukegan, Illinois , in 1920 , the son of an electrical worker and a housewife of Swedish origins in 1934 as a result of the Great Depression during which the father was unemployed, he moved to California , where he discovered the world of science fiction , enough to start writing some stories on magazines. Among his early works there are also crime novels and noir .
In 1950 collected in a single volume his Martian Chronicles , which got a huge international success not yet affected by the passing of years.

The following year, followed the masterpiece that is best remembered, Fahrenheit 451 , a sort of eulogy to read set in a society dystopian , which also became a film of the same name directed by successful François Truffaut . In subsequent years, Bradbury began his career of screenwriter began with the white whale Moby Dick by John Huston , without forgetting his career as a novelist . In fact, remember the big world out there , The wonders of the can , I Sing the Body Electric! , Country of October , the people of autumn , traveling time , the ambitious yellow Death in Venice and the lightest Cemetery of Fools and The golden apples of the sun .

In the last years of his life proved to be unfavorable to books in electronic format , so as to prevent their works to be published in digital form. Only in 2011 has permitted the publication in electronic form his most successful novel, Fahrenheit 451 , claiming, however, prefer the paper.
On 5 June 2012 , aged 91, died in Los Angeles , in the villa where he had retired in the last years of his life.

On 22 August 2012, scientists at NASA involved in the project Mars Science Laboratory have given the name of Bradbury Landing  to the landing on Mars rover Curiosity , which took place August 6, 2012.
