Egyptian Pharaoh

The rulers of Ancient Egypt are now commonly referred to as Pharaohs. This was the word used by the Greeks to stand for the rulers of the Nile-country. From the 19th Dynasty, the term Pharaoh was used occasionally as a respectful designation for the king. The final development was when the Hebrews  added to the title, as in "Pharaoh Hophra" of the Old Testament.
