BLADEN, Thomas, governor of Maryland, lived in the 18th century. He went to England, married there Miss Jansen, sister of Lady Baltimore, and returned as governor in 1742. During his administration the western boundary of the province was fixed by treaty with the Indians, and the manufacture of flour began to attract the attention of the government. Governor Bladen began to build a house for the residence of colonial officers; but it was not finished during his administration. He returned to England in 1746, and was succeeded by Samuel Ogle. In 1751 he was an executor of the will of Charles, fifth Lord Baltimore.
